I am amazed at the striking designs the airlines sport on the exterior of their planes. Colorful! Unique! They spend a fortune on the exteriors that I only see as I’m passing the airport window. I fly two or three times a year. On a recent trip to Florida, it occurred to me that the airlines might consider spending some money to redecorate the interior of their planes. If I must be stuffed into a seat made for a ten year old and held practically immobile for two to five hours, at least give me something attractive to look at! I have to say, the interiors of most planes are pretty dull. For frequent flyers they be almost nauseous! Why do the wall panels always have to be cream? They could easily be imprinted with scenes of the romantic or exotic places to which the airline flies. Or how about a quiet rose or a striking blue wall? Has anyone at the airline considered upholstering the seats in a flaming red, perhaps with black headrests! How about simulated hardwood tray tables? In this day of molded plastics, there is no excuse for those tables on every airplane being the same dingy gray. Think of carpets in a soft moss green or a rich earth brown. Anything but that drab… well, I’m not sure how to describe the color. And for goodness sake…actually for passenger’s sake, do something about those flight attendants’ uniforms. One guesses that most airlines dress their attendants in dark blue or black in order to project a professionalism demeanor. I hesitate to say this to the blue-suited, high-priced corporate officers who make such decisions, but uniforms, with the exception of the military and some elementary schools, are passé! I’ve talked with airline attendants who love their job, but loathe their uniform! If you want your crew to look smart, your airline to be perceived as the airline of tomorrow, have a designer come up with five different outfits, provide the crew with one of each, then allow them to decide which to wear on each flight. Is there a reason every attendant on the flight has to wear the same coordinated outfit? I would hope the airlines might consider moving some of that vibrant color from the outside, to the inside. It really is sad that the glossy magazine in the drab gray pocket in front of me is the most attractive thing in the cabin!. And
that’s my two cents worth |
